Dedicated to all the beautiful and strong black women in my life. My mother, my sister, my grandmother’s, my aunt’s, my nieces, my friends, my teachers. You all were in my heart while I was writing this piece. I see your soul, your sacrifices, and your resilience every day. But most importantly, I see the love that moves through you. Thank you for all your love and wisdom. You all are my heroes.

It is with great honor, to dedicate, “The Preyed and the Prayer” to my late cousin Christopher Donnell Williams. He passed away in 2010 and was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. Our family misses you and forever recognizes the incredibly brave life you’ve lived. To his mother, Juanita Williams - the oldest member of our family at 95 years old. My Aunt, I love you and your resilient soul. She misses her son so much. I hope this story reaches you and helps you keep his name alive.
With all my love, D’Miya.
