Winnie the Pooh Christmas Carol - December 17 - December 18, 2014

Conwell Kidz Drama Program

 End Notes

Theatre is a vehicle in which we tell stories. Stories have the ability to help us learn about others and to find understanding and epathy for them and their situations.

Tonight's show is a fun retelling of a timeless classic. It cleverly weaves the characters of AA Milne's "Winnie the Pooh" into the classic tale of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol".

Many, many, (many) years ago, I was working in a regional equity theatre called The Forum Theatre. In addition to performing our mainstage productions, we would produce children's theatre during the day. This piece was written by a dear professional colleague of mine during that time. It holds a very special place in my heart because I originated the role of Kanga (many, many years ago).

Each year, when I begin my search for the perfect production to put up during the holiday season, I find myself returning to this material. Its universal message that all human beings have the opportunity to behave in kinder ways towards each other resonates. I could't think of a better story to tell during this time of year.

The young performers that you are about to see tonight have worked so hard to tell you this story truthfully and authentically. Their in depth analysis of this work has given this piece so much meaning and heart. I have enjoyed every minute of exploring it with them and bringing their ideas and concepts to the stage.

It is my hope that through the beauty of live theatre and this production, we can help everyone understand the importance of kindness and empathy during this time of year.

Enjoy the show!
