The Cast of Aladdin for their enthusiasm and hard work
Director's Notes
Disney's Aladdin, Jr. marks our 13th show with the Cooperative Drama Program between Bear Lake, Onekama and Kaleva Norman Dickson Schools. This year's show was suggested to us at the end of last year's musical by the students themselves, and even though we read several other shows, we kept coming back to this show as the best fit for our current cast.
This year's cast is mixed with some fine upperclassmen leadership, strong developing talents, and enthusiastic beginners getting some great experience under their belts. This model of allowing students to grow into their roles under the mentorship of older students has been not only successful, but exciting for us to see transformations take place.
We are also thrilled with the number of alumna who return to watch the show, or better yet offer their services to the show. We are so appreciative of their support and willingness to pitch in and give back to our program. We also could not do this without the hard work, dedication, and generosity of so many parents, local businesses, and community members who give their support to our program year after year. Thank you so much. You truly are making a difference in the lives of many students.
Finally, this year's show is only one act, and shorter than our usual shows because we are performing the Junior, which is an abridged version of the Broadway show. This just means there are a few lines and few lyrics cut here and there, but the story is near identical to what could be seen on Broadway. Since there is currently a Broadway group touring the country performing Aladdin, the only version available to us for licensing was the Junior version. With the high number of snow days and many new faces in our program, we have been so thankful for this shortened show many times over.
Thank you so much for your continued support of our program. It means so much to so many of our students, as many of them have told us the spring musical, "is the best part of their school year." Thank you for being a part of it.
