We live in times of strife. Strife that affects each and every one of us differently - but it affects us all. This is nothing new. Since the dawn of humanity, progress and love for one another has been stifled by greed and hatred. The Greeks told stories of kings humbled by gods for showing these qualities. Our history has real examples of those who did not learn from these stories. It strikes me personally as my family and countless others have fled from leaders filled with the same hatred and greed.
The Bacchae tells us this story that we unfortunately know too well: A cruel person who suffers for his actions.Keeping some original elements of the Greek story and adding in our own historical examples, we tell this story once again. This rich and complex story is a timeless warning of what can happen when hatred and greed go unchecked.
I could not be more proud of everyone involved in this production. From the conception of its idea to the day of its final performance it has been a behemoth of an undertaking and without everyone buying in, it wouldn’t have been possible. I hope you not only enjoy this show, but are able to critically engage with its message. Each and every person involved has put their convictions and desires into this story, and we hope you feel the power of the harrowing warning these young artists are conveying.
