Notes from the Playwright:
The characters in this play are archetypes of college students struggling to find their career paths as they face challenges with not being fully prepared with the skills that are required for those choices. More important, the play is about belonging and acceptance, finding our group as we also strive towards individuality and our sense of unique self. The importance of belongong to a group is of real importance to the human condition and can play a large role in feeling supported. We may have many groups in which we belong, but for those who feel they are excluded and alone, the fear social isolation and not fitting in can drive us to changing in order to be accepted.
This play is dedicated to the freshman class who is most likely missing home, still finding their groups and where they fit in, to the misfits, the marginalized, the bullied, the loner, all who struggle with finding their place in this crazy world. My intent is for the audience to take away that people all have their own personal struggles and though those struggles may be seen and unseen, they are no less, very real. I hope that this play will help people to be more accepting of groups whose identities are unfamiliar to them. At heart this place is about inclusivity, facing fears and ultimatley finding our way.
Notes from the Director:
Coming back to Cottey to direct a show written by my theatre professor has been an honor. I'm so proud of my actors and designers, who have worked incredibly hard to get this show ready in a very short amount of time. Special thanks to my spouse for all their hard work and help, and to my mother-in-law for housing me so I could do this!
