Directors Note:
Where do I begin? This show has my entire heart. For those who know, this was the One Act Play we did during the 2019/2020 school year. This immaculate piece of literature never saw the stage due to the COVID-19 pandemic and I was gutted.
My cast at the time worked so hard to bring such an important story to light. There was so much thought, process, collaboration, and creativity that those amazing students brought to the table. It was a tough decision to do this show again, but it just left this unfinished hole in my heart and I had to put myself to the test to see if I could handle doing this again with an entirely new batch of students and wow, have they matched up!
I do want to give a massive shoutout to those students who were in the first version of The Book of Everything: Henry Martinez, Lillie Harlow, Sarah McIntosh, Bryson Coker, Reily Kelly, Alex Gutermuth, Briana Todor, Ethan Weinstein, Faith Bouchelle, Insha Noorani, JJ Davis, Kathleen Ready, Olivia Lemus, Austin Ebel, & Meleigha Martinez.
I also wanted to shout out the tech crew for this show because they were truly creating magic: Eden Smith, Ethan Hernandez, Triana Ho, Allyson Williams, & Nizangie Castillo.
That group of kids has my heart and I am so thankful that each of them chose to go on this journey with me and will eternally grateful for each and every one of them. Thanks, guys for making that version of the show so impactful to my heart. I love you all, always.
Now, this new group of crazy kids. Wow. We talked about me trying not to compare the show version together and honestly, it was so hard at first but as we continued on our journey - I found that they were creating brand new amazingly stunning moments that will forever be highlights of my career as a director.
This show is such a true tale of "kids understand more than we give them credit for." So often we dismiss children because they are children, we do not give them credit for being able to understand certain topics that impact them heavily. This show showcases that kids are always watching and growing. It sends a message to those watching and takes you on this magical journey filled with magic and happiness.
I hope you all enjoy this show and story as much as we all have!
