The Music Man - April 05 - April 06, 2019

Crossings Christian School

CCS patrons of the arts,

Welcome to tonight's performance of The Music Man. If this is your first theatrical experience at Crossings, I promise you are in for a treat. Our musicians and thespians have been working tirelessly for weeks to prepare for tonight, and you will be impressed with their talents.

I love this wonderful story of love and redemption about con man Harold Hill who, posing as a boys' band organizer and leader to sell band instruments and uniforms to naive Iowa townsfolk,  falls in love with librarian and piano teacher Marian, and the love is reciprocated when Harold helps her younger brother overcome his lisp and social awkwardness. Will love be incentive enough to rehabilitate this con man?  Watch and see.

We here at CCS believe that no one is beyond the reach of Christ's love, and that this love conquers all. Hopefully as you watch this story of redeeming love, you will remember the love of the ONE who rescues from sin.

Enjoy,

Paul MacDonald
Headmaster

Welcome to Crossings Christian School,

Meredith Willson's The Music Man is a well beloved musical. It has enchanted audiences for generations with its memorable characters, fast talking songs, and beautiful moments.

At the heart of this story is Harold Hill, an unrepentant conman with a reputation for sly sales and quick getaways.  An expert on manipulation, he does not hesitate to take advantage of gullible young women. Harold meets his match in River City, Iowa and discovers something worth risking everything for.

Each of us, at our core, desires to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. This is reflected in the popularity of movies like the Avengers or Star Wars, in the solidarity people feel with their favorite sports team, or in a sense of belonging to a political movement. We deeply desire to be part of something that takes us outside of ourselves, our current struggles, predicaments, or fears - and brings us into a new sense of victory, justice, or peace.

The Christian walk is, in many ways, both an answer to and a challenge of this desire. In becoming a member of God's family, we become a part of a cosmic, eternal story with clearly delineated lines between good and evil. At the same time, it calls us to adjust everything in our lives to fall in line with a plan that is not necessarily in keeping with our own sense of right and wrong. It calls us to levels of righteousness we're simply not capable of attaining and it forces us to realize our own limitations. Will we, like Harold, leave everything behind for the chance of something more?

Enjoy the Show!
