I am so proud of everyone that has been involved with this production. To see young actors shape their characters and begin to understand how to tell a story is so exciting to me. For them also to grasp the idea that children performing in musicals doesn’t have to stop at walking to point A, say the line, then wait for the next line. They become the characters and stay in that mindset until the end of the show. A truly successful production is more than what is presented on stage. It becomes a personal journey for those involved in the production. I have seen so much love and respect shared between the young actors and their parents. I feel so supported by these actors and their families. It’s difficult sometimes for a young actor to refrain from giggling or talking, or just goofing off during a rehearsal, but you know you have a great group of actors when all it takes is a couple of requests of “please listen” or “let’s focus” and they do.
I would not have been able to do this production without the help of so many people. My sister Tina covered the cost of the royalties until I could pay them back. Dave Smith not only helped me direct the show, but he has kept me focused and has encouraged me to keep pushing forward every step of the way. Brandon Gonzales also has encouraged me and has shown me that the dream is always in front of us. I have to offer special thanks to a couple of my parents. Melissa and Chris Poindexter always seem to go out of their way to communicate and ask if there is anything that they can do to help out, and they always follow through if I take them up on it! Heather Hall is my rock! Without her advice, help, and wisdom I think I might have thrown in the towel a few times. Thank you Heather!!!
To all of my young actors I only hope that you have learned something from this experience. I also hope that you have enjoyed the journey even with all of the work both difficult and fun. I’m amazed how each of you came to this show to play your roles so perfectly. I can’t imagine different actors in your place.
I’ve enjoyed working with each of you and will miss rehearsing with you, even the times when we rehearsed on the sidewalk! I hope that where ever the road leads you that a small part of you will remember our time together and that you have fond memories of this experience. I wish you all the best. Please stay in touch.
