Director's Note

In these busy times, it is often quite easy to get sidetracked or distracted from what matters most in life.  Whether we are maintaning children's busy schedules, getting caught up in social media news feeds, finding homework time, traveling to sporting events, social commitments, or just finding ourselves a few solitary moments of time to breathe, it is important for us to always remember the important place that family occupies in our lives.  Families exist all around us and can take on many shapes and forms.  A family can comprise a nuclear family, extended family, a network of friends, support groups, and even, in this case, a school family.   On the first day of rehearsal for "Sound of Music", Alice Revay, the Student Director, stated that she wanted the cast to come together as a family during this show.  That word stuck with me throughout the entire rehearsal run for many reasons.

The "Sound of Music" at its core represents the relationships of one family in response to an ever changing world.  This show is the historical account of one family, who in the face of loosing everything at the hands of a brutal adversary, chose to love and depend on each other for their own survival.  Roger's and Hammerstein's message is clear; in the end, it is not our homes or material possisions that matter, but our love for those we care about most in life that matters the most.  This message is at the core of what the "Sound of Music" stands for.  As you watch the "Sound of Music" tonight, reflect upon the themes of togetherness and unity that are prevalent throughout the show, and let that inspire a spirit of thankfulness and gratitude for those placed in your own lives.  Our wonderful cast and crew family is pleased to present this classic piece of musical theater for you tonight.  Enjoy the show.
