Pippin - November 07 - November 11, 2019

Dixie High

  DIRECTOR'S NOTE

Welcome to the Dixie High Arts Department production of Pippin! In keeping with DHS’s theatre tradition, we go all out to create something fun and special for everyone by putting together a real gem of a musical. This 2013 Tony Award-winning musical revival has captivated audiences from all over with its unique storytelling and magic to touch hearts.

This show is very popular among fans of musical theatre and is not commonly done in this area, so I am grateful and happy to work with these students on this production. I love stories that share the human experience and ask us “what do we want out of life?” Our Drama Club theme for this year is “We Can Make a New Day Bright” and this is possible when you are part of a group of students that want to make it happen. I love to see students try new and challenging things to better themselves. They really can “Make a New Day Bright”.

Thank you so much to a hard-working team - Mrs. Snow and Will Stucki - for their work with music and the talents they have. Also a big thanks to Troy and Erica for their choreography and getting these kids to move. Thank you to all the wonderful parents that help make this possible with and for their kids. And most importantly, I thank my family - my wonderful wife Jalee for her support and the many great feats she does for me, and our six little ones for the support they give.

ABOUT THE SHOW

There's magic to do when a prince learns the true meaning of glory, love, and war in Stephen Schwartz's iconic and unforgettable musical masterpiece.

With an infectiously unforgettable score from four-time Grammy winner, three-time Oscar winner, and musical theatre giant, Stephen Schwartz, Pippin is the story of one young man's journey to be extraordinary. Winner of four 2013 Tony Awards including Best Musical  Revival, this updated circus-inspired version of Pippin continues to captivate and appeal to the young at heart throughout the world.

Heir to the Frankish throne, the young prince Pippin is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh, and the intrigues of political power (after disposing of his father, King Charlemagne the Great). In the end, though, Pippin finds that happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the unextraordinary moments that happen every day.
