The Addams Family - November 11 - November 13, 2022

Dodgeland Middle/High

 DIRECTOR'S NOTE

Like Gomez, I am feeling Happy/Sad.

I am happy because I have the opportunity to produce a show with a cast and crew of fantastic students. I am happy because we have several strong leaders in the cast who have been instrumental to our success. I am happy that we have many younger cast members who will ensure that the theatre program at Dodgeland will live on.

I am sad because this is my last time working with our seniors. Their contributions and presence will be missed. I am sad because, in the whirlwind of preparing for the show, I don't take the time to truly soak in the moment. Sunday evening, it will all be over, we will eventually tear down the set, and my mind will have already shifted to other things.

This year's production was a large undertaking. Without the help of a few key people, I am not sure the show would have made it over the finish line.

I am grateful for Randy Mohr who took an idea for the Heretic's Chair and brought it to life. You created a beautiful set piece that will find use in shows for many years to come.

I am grateful for Brad Modaff, who orchestrates all of the technical elements of the show. Your passion and support for the arts at Dodgeland is very evident. Despite your crowded schedule, you make time to ensure that our productions look and sound the best that they can.

I am hugely indebted to Deb Klecker. When there was a need, she helped fill it. From rummaging for free furniture, to mending/altering costumes, to putting on Ancestor makeup, to designing and printing the tickets, to finding sponsors for our show and putting up posters, she has really given 200% to making this production a success. A million times, thank you.

Lastly, I cannot do this without the love and support of my wife and children. Heidi, Gale, and Nora, you sacrifice your time with me and give me so much patience and grace when the stresses of producing a show get the better of me. You've even sacrificed branches from our tree and our pantry door! The only bright side to the show concluding is that I will be home more often to spend more time with you.

I hope this show leaves you feeling Happy/Sad as well. That the talents of our students, the catchy songs, the witty jokes, and the occasional dance routine will bring happiness to your life for the next two hours. And that you will be sad when it is over.
