Welcome to Dublin Scioto Theatre's production of Hadestown: Teen Edition, a thrilling and emotional journey that blends Greek mythology with a rich, modern sensibility. In this version, we are reimagining the timeless myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, exploring themes of love, sacrifice, hope, and resilience.
Hadestown tells the story of Orpheus, a hopeful and talented musician, and Eurydice, a young woman seeking a better life. Their love is tested when Eurydice makes a fateful decision to venture to the underworld in search of security. The ruler of the underworld, Hades, offers her a deal that she cannot refuse, but as the price for her return, Orpheus must prove the power of love itself by overcoming impossible odds.
Hadestown began its life in 2006 as a community theatre project in the state of Vermont. Developed over 12 years, it made its way from community theatre to studio album and live concert tour, to pre-Broadway productions in New York, Edmonton, and London.
We are grateful that the Teen Edition became available while the Broadway run is still going strong. This has been an excellent opportunity for our students to perform something that is so new and challenging.
Hadestown is a celebration of hope and artistry, a reminder that even when faced with the impossible, we can choose to reach for the light. We are so happy that you are here and we hope that, like Orpheus, we can move you with the music of this incredible story.
