Dwight Morrow High School

 Director's Notes

From the Director

Thank you all for coming to our production of Mean Girls:The High School Version. I hope that you are entertained and inspired by our show. Mean Girls is a story about overcoming the day to day of being a high school student, and finding where you belong. We follow the life of Cady, a homeschooled transfer student from Africa as she enters the WILDS of a US high school. We see her find her roar as she navigates being in a group of popular MEAN girls all while trying to understand the ins and outs of a High School social atmosphere. I think we can all relate to Cady in some small way; we have all experienced the pressures of stepping into a new social environment and finding who we are, along with finding friends that will help us grow into being the best version of ourselves.

Students working on the musical have learned important skills like communication, creative problem solving, conflict resolution, collaboration, time management, adaptability, leadership skills, self-discipline, self-awareness, and self-esteem, in addition to a music, dance, and theatre education. And, of course, we had fun along the way!

I am eternally grateful to all the students and staff that worked tirelessly on this production! To Mr. Rodriguez and the Arts Honor Society for building our big set pieces, putting our lockers on wheels, and all the art supplies I borrowed for our scenes. Thank you to our staff members who stepped up to portray characters in our show. To the administrators, custodians, and security team; THANK YOU for supporting the needs of our cast and crew, keeping us late, and for letting the teacher team leave meetings early to run lines, music, and build sets with students. It takes a village, and I am eternally grateful to have found mine here at DMHS! To my students thank you for taking time off work to be on stage, backstage, and sit in the house. Your energy and drive are what fuels me towards building a strong program here at DMHS.
