Eaglecrest High School

 Notes from the Directors

This is actually my first time directing anything. I wanted to be a director because I wanted to try something new. I was always in the plays in musicals in middle school and I wanted to try directing. I absolutely loved it and I will definitely do it again. Because I was new to the whole director thing I took advice from my peers who have directed before, and most of my decisions were based on what I liked and didn’t like about my past directors. This experience has been a great experience and I would love to do it again. - Judith Owusu Sekyere, Director of "Prologue/Interlogue/Epilogue"

Directing has always been something that I had loved, I just never thought of pursuing it until recently. While a show owes its performance to its actors and techies, it is built off of the directors foundation, making it extremely vital to get correct. It intimidated and excited me so I decided to give it a try. Quarantine provided the perfect opportunity to let me get out of my creative comfort zone to really dig into the meaning and potential this show had. I loved being able to watch my amazing actors grow with their characters, as well as watching all of our beautiful visions come to life. Directing is not a one person role, but a role that everyone involved gets the right to input into; a team effort. I’m so incredibly proud of everyone who participated and thankful I got to have this experience. It makes me so excited to do it again sometime hopefully soon. - Ella Zubieni, Director of "Her Heart"

I directed in 8th grade and really enjoyed it so when there was a chance to direct again I was excited to be able to have the chance to do it again. It was really fun to direct an smaller cast this time and work with them. - Kyla Clak, Director of "Sad & Glad"

I’ve always loved theatre and had a passion for it but couldn’t act. So I took a shot at directing because I thought I could be a pretty decent director and here I am. I’m proud of myself for being able to overcome the anxiety that came with directing the scene. It was so much fun and such a unique experience that I hope to do over and over again! I would have never thought that I would be where I am right now and I am so grateful for everyone who helped me get here. - Ava Cohrs, Director of "This Hurts"

I found my love for directing 3 years ago while talking to my middle school Theatre teacher about how she had made decisions about the show and her process overall. My first show I helped with was incredibly stressful, but that didn’t stop me from trying to perfect my directing abilities. This show was the first time I got to make more individual decisions and I loved it! Theatre is my place and passion, whether I am directing or doing the technical side of things, and this show helped me further that love. - Mikayla Fischer, Director of "This Hurts"
