Footloose - February 21 - February 24, 2019

East Lincoln High School

  From the Director...

There is nothing quite like taking a nostalgic trip back to a time period that holds some of your fondest memories. Music can transport us back in time and triggers emotions of the past in a unique and extraordinary way. A familiar melody can take you back to what you were wearing, your hairstyle, the name and face of your teenage infatuation, your first car, and maybe even take you back to a time when you enjoyed singing at the top of your lungs into a hairbrush. The 80’s were indeed a memorable time period. For those that grew up during that time, this era holds fond memories of music and fashion that shaped hearts and minds in an unparalleled capacity. Looking at our teenage culture today, you will see some of these fashions and fads making a remarkable comeback. Talking to those same teens, you will find that virtually all of them have a favorite 80’s song and movie. That 80’s magic is what we hope to revive and relive in this performance.

As a director, I have an incredible opportunity to recreate memorable times in history. I am able to watch the faces and hear the giggles of our students as they attempt to emulate fashion statements and tweak their 80’s dance steps. Through the magic and creativity of the theatre, I have experienced first-hand the ability to bridge generational gaps and ensure that some of the fond memories of our past will live on forever.

It has been a pleasure to work on this production and there is no way to accurately reflect how many individuals have contributed to this performance. They have fabricated costumes, envisioned and built set pieces, designed lights, created publicity art and materials, all while rehearsing lines and musical selections. Local musicians have given their time and talents to rehearse and add live music to the show’s timeless tunes. Parents and faculty members have supplied manpower to ensure timely completion of even the smallest tasks. All of these individuals and efforts have come together to make the magic of this production possible. But it doesn’t stop there. All of the work just mentioned would be in vain without you, the audience. Never underestimate the value of your role. Nothing encourages actors more than an engaged audience. We hope that as you become a part of tonight’s performance that you find yourself tapping your foot, dancing a little in your seat, singing the songs in your head, and laughing at the antics of our characters.

Thank you for your presence and continued support of the performing arts programs at East Lincoln High School!

Sincerely,
Greg Franklin
