Newsies! Watch what happens as Panther Productions hits the streets of New York City with this inspiring tale that showcases the many talents of our students. This year's production is inspired by the true story of the 1899 Newsboys Strike. Newsies, the musical, is an exhilarating, joyful, and entertaining musical that captures the strength that young people have when they join together and stand up against injustice.
Jack Kelly and his ragtag team of newsboys make their living, every day, selling newspapers on the city streets. They soon find out that the prices of “papes” are going up and they have nothing to do except, “open the gates and seize the day!” Young newspaper reporter Katherine Plummer, helps to lead the Newsies in a strike against the greedy publisher of the New York World, Pulitzer.
We have thoroughly enjoyed watching our students grow as performers and appreciate your continual support in the arts at East Pennsboro. Striving to deliver a fun-filled educational process, we have emphasized many modern theatrical techniques and performance components. We have strived to allow our students the chance to grow in new ways while allowing them to be educated in all areas of the theatrical process. Each student has been expected to develop their character knowing that each and every performer contributes to the overall production. We hope that challenging them to develop their stage personalities will captivate you and bring this performance to life.
