A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder - April 24 - April 26, 2025

Edsel Ford High School

  Directors Notes

Good Evening,

Throughout my life, theatre has always been a family event. We would get dressed up, go out for dinner, and go see a show whenever we could. On one of our family theatre outings a number of years ago, my wonderful parents took me to see a show I knew absolutely nothing about, called “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.” I sat at the Fisher Theatre having no idea what to expect. It started slowly and then rapidly picked up. As I watched, I realized that one person was playing every member of the D’Ysquith family. I was absolutely tickled and completely in awe of how one person could play so many distinct characters in such little time. So, you can imagine my surprise when Mr. Kelm said this was something Edsel Ford Theatre was going to tackle this season.

When we started this show, I genuinely had no idea how we were going to stage it. There are so many intricate components that must work seamlessly together. The continuous set changes, costume changes, and multitude of characters the actors have to take on is overwhelming for a professional company, let alone a high school production.

As always our incredible kiddos pulled it off! I am always inspired by the way our students come together and present a theatrical feat of great proportions. While our actors have worked tirelessly to put together a series of well-defined characters, I would like to take a moment and give our crew a special moment of recognition. There isn't a single show that could run without a crew and this show significantly highlights the indispensable skills and talents our crew brings to the Edsel Ford Theatre Program.

To all our cast and crew, your enthusiasm is deeply cherished by me and continually motivates me to push past my limits and support you in the same way you support each other. As always, I am honored to know you, blessed to work with you, and proud of all of you. Thank you for being you.

Curtains up! And enjoy the show,

Megan Timpf
