Elida High School

 Nicholas Bader

Theater Arts Development Scholarship

Nicholas Bader was an Elida student from 2009-2013 graduating Salutatorian of his class. He pursued his passion for theater at an early age with the Lima community's Encore Theater. With Elida Theater he brought to life the role of Motel in "Fiddler on the Roof" and later returned as an alumnus to hilariously portray William Morris Barfee in "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee".
While Nicholas excelled in acting his real passion was for the backstage production elements of theater.  In 2013 Nicholas began his studies at Columbia College in Chicago, Illinois where he graduated cum laude with a BA in Theater Technology. Even before he graduated he was actively involved in theater companies across the United States.  He believed that experience was the best teacher for this craft.
In the spring of 2018, Nicholas worked as a Production Assistant to the pre-Broadway run of "Beetlejuice" to where then after moving to New York City, he returned to assist in the Broadway opening of "Beetlejuice" winter of 2019.  During his time in New York, Nicholas worked as a Production Assistant on Broadway for "The Play that Goes Wrong" and in April of 2019 he assumed the same role for the planned revival of the musical "Rock of Ages".

Nicholas often returned to Elida to mentor students and teach about his craft for the theater class and for musical auditions. Mrs. Bargerstock said, "He has a natural ability to encourage and challenge others to grow in their craft as actors and creative technicians."
Extending Nicholas's passion to bring forth the best in others through the theatrical arts, Elida High School Theater and the Civic Center of Lima announce the creation of the Nicholas Bader Theater Arts Development Scholarship to be awarded this year to a promising Elida Theater student in grades 9-11. The scholarship will be awarded in April 2020.
We honor and remember the light of our dear friend, Nicholas, as through this scholarship he continues to encourage others in their development and love for theater.
