Elkhorn North High School

 End Notes

A Note from the Directors,

The students and directing team are so pleased to bring the beloved television show “Schoolhouse Rock” to you, live! The Schoolhouse Rock television show aired on the ABC network from 1973 to 2009. The show mixed catchy tunes with fun, memorable characters and combined them with history, math, science, and grammar lessons. “Schoolhouse Rock Live!” debuted at the Cabaret Voltaire, Chicago in 1993. The live show encompasses the feeling and educational value of the television show while adding a spark of fun through the interaction between the characters and the audience. Be aware, audience participation is a must! Please stand and join us for “The Circulation” and help us find hiding places in “Ready or Not, Here I Come.”

While some of the music has aged incredibly well and remains a catchy earworm for all of us in the cast, crew, and beyond, we understand that some of the lyrics have not aged as gracefully. You will please note that since these lyrics were written, poor Pluto has been demoted from a planet to a dwarf planet in 2006. Also, the way we look at our history in America and as Americans have shifted from the sunny disposition we hear in the songs “Melting Pot” and “Elbow Room” to that of awareness.  Please know that these ideals are of a time and the songs reflect that time not necessarily the values or the accepted ideas of today.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents of the cast and crew. These students have worked so hard for almost three months to realize this production, and they would not be able to give their full heart without your love and support. Secondly, we would like to thank the rock and the sanity of this project, Mr. Matthew Rom. Mr. Rom has been a wonderful sounding board throughout this production and has helped tremendously in making this musical run smoothly. Last but not least, we would like to thank this incredible cast and crew. Their dedication to one another and to this musical is humbling and beautiful.

Normally we would say sit back, relax and enjoy the show but not in this instance. Stand up, dance, and join the show as we bring you “SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE!”
