PRESIDENT’S NOTE
Spelling Bee is a show in which I hold near and dear to my heart. Three years ago, William Barfeé and Keely Milliken of Centre Stage Inc. cast me toward a new horizon of dreams and ideals to one day build a production company of my own. When our team first dreamt of what we called “Lightspeed Theatricals” back in 2015, it was Spelling Bee that served as an anchor for our dream, and today, that dream has become a reality. You are in for a night of musical comedy at its absolute finest, and it is all thanks to our spectacular cast and creative team. There is a popular quote attributed to Walt Disney which I believe best describes my feelings toward the cast, creative team and board of directors.
“You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make that dream a reality.”
In a departure from typical musical theatre, four volunteers from the audience will be selected to join the competition… Famous volunteers over the years have included Al Sharpton, Julie Andrews, Lea Salonga, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and countless other stars of the stage and screen. Infamously, Julie Andrews spelled “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” incorrectly, subsequently spelling it correctly when asked to do so backwards.
From my heart to yours, thank you for attending our inaugural musical.
I can only hope that the dream of Lightspeed Theatricals will live on for years to come in Emerging Actors Collective.
