Directors Note:
When Oleanna was written in 1992, America was tuning in to the Clarence Thomas Supreme Court confirmation hearings. In those hearings, Annita Hill accused Justice Thomas of sexual harassment. During the hearings, the country heard allegations about pubes being placed on a Coke can, and the phrase "Long Dong Silver" was put on congressional record.
Today's news has not matured at all. Anthony Wiener and Miley Cyrus dominate multiple cycles while the country faces a growing budget crisis, political turmoil, and continued uncertainty in the Middle East. Unfortunately the themes explored in Oleanna are just as relevant today as they were in the early '90s. With no easy answers, we can only look inward and ask ourselves not who is right, but what is right.

It has been a thrilling ride presenting our inaugural season! Through all the ups and downs, crazy and good times, art and truth have prevailed! Though a somewhat ambitious effort for our first go around, we can say with the utmost honesty, that it has been thoroughly rewarding to watch the formation of Encore! Theater Group; to watch its company members come together and create GOOD art, here in Saint Louis. The beautiful thing about Saint Louis is that, for the most part (when we are not competing with the World Series!), Saint Louis has been most welcoming of Encore! to it's theater scene. We think that we will stay! Once again, thanks for a great first season. We are looking forward to many more. Everyone deserves an Encore!
