The Lightning Thief - February 17 - February 19, 2023

Evergreen Park High School

 End Notes

From the Directors...

It is a joy to have the opportunity to bring to life the most popular story from one of the most popular young adult authors of this generation.  Themes of self-acceptance and resilience are hidden in this hilarious portrayal of the epic adventure story which was the foundation of the series.

There are so many who have assisted on this quest to bring the story to life.  Heartfelt thanks go to:

*Our EPCHS Administration and Board of Education for their support and investment

in new lighting that will enhance this and future productions

*All of the faculty, support staff, and maintenance crew who have lent a hand in

  many ways

*Gil - for his hard work, creative energy and rapport with our students

*John - for being Gil’s right-hand man for so many years

*Our friends in the pit - for their talents and musicianship

*My dad, Bill Moore - for productively fun thrifting trips and “MacGyver” moments

*Ken - for his professionalism and never-ending support

*Matt-for providing me with the most seamless collaboration I’ve ever experienced

*All of the students in the cast, crew, and pit - for trusting us to put their time and

talents to the best possible use.  So proud of all of you!

*Our audiences - for supporting live theatre in your community.

Enjoy the show and we hope to see you back this summer!

                                                                                  Amy Kazin

If Lightning Thief is a reminder of anything, it’s that there is nothing more important than community.  Without it, it can be difficult to accomplish any big feat.  We have all been very lucky for a long time to rely on a community that has served to entertain us for years.  While there may be co-directors, by no means are there co-producers. Amy Kazin spends countless hours working at a multitude of tasks that make these performances possible. There is not enough space on this page to list the things Amy does that no one every hears about. In addition, Ken and the Kazin family, along with their beautiful community of friends, family and artists have continually contributed to a theatre experience that has offered a safe and loving space to create, explore and grow. Without their efforts, I would not have a career in theatre. I did my first show with them when I was in 6th grade and the same day of my first rehearsal was the same day I decided to pursue this. The theatre program was more than just a department that put on great shows and trained you to be a professional. It was home. It is home.

If you have enjoyed a musical, a play, the band, color guard, madrigals, minors, music offerings at their family church, thank a Kazin. Without a loving program, no one would audition. Without building strong friendships the pit would be empty. Without spending the weekends shopping with Dad, there would be no costumes. Without creating art in the community, there is no connecting with Gil and his brilliant mind that creates these sets and light designs.  Thank you to the Kazins, the producers and heart of this theatre program. Thank you all for being you, we are all better for it.
