Firebird Children's Theatre

 End Notes

A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Ten years ago, a recent high school graduate performed in Firebird Theatre’s second mainstage production. That show was “Wizard of Oz” and it changed her life. Ten years being part of this company has brought her so many opportunities and even better friends. That girl is me and I could not be more thrilled to be returning to Oz for my ten year anniversary with Firebird!

When I was brought into this production I knew I didn’t want to do a typical version of this show. My best friend and I were supposed to direct and choreograph this show with Firebird two years ago as the mainstage, but then the pandemic hit and the world shut down. So coming into this summer I wanted to go back to the plan we had made two years prior.

This journey to Oz transcends time. While Dorothy travels the yellow brick road, it seems as though we also travel through time. We meet the mean girls (crows), the Andrews Sisters (apple trees), the circus performers (munchkins), and many more! The thing I like most about Oz is that it challenges the actors to embrace their differences. That even though you may not feel like you are the smartest person, the most loving person, or the most courageous person, you are still loved and accepted!

The actors have had a blast performing this show and have been a pleasure to work with. Over the past two years that I was not part of Workshop, this show brought me so much joy to return to my favorite place and jump right back in! The kids have shown so much growth since day one! Enjoy the show and welcome to Oz!
