Macbeth 2057
In this modern, apocalyptic interpretation of Macbeth, Scotland finds itself at the center of a dystopian, Northern European landscape. Global warming has caused the Permafrost in Northern Siberia to melt, revealing the remains of three women buried in an unmarked grave. Scabs on their remains tested positive for smallpox, an ancient, eradicated but deadly disease, which was suddenly revived and spread across Russia and all of Europe, decimating the population. All smallpox vaccines housed in laboratories were destroyed in the 1980s with the exception of stores in Norway. Seizing an opportunity for power, newly imperialistic Norway mobilized it’s powerful and inoculated army to invade Great Britain seeking to acquire its superior natural resources. Scotland, divided by war, politics, and desperation, is at a tipping point, and the monarchy is vulnerable. The resulting power vacuum has become a crisis of opportunity for ambitious and ruthless leaders...ruthless leaders like Macbeth.
