Director's  Notes

Into the Woods has been entertaining audiences for decades as a stage musical and now an award winning film. It is an entertaining blend of some of the most beloved fairy tale characters ever written. However, it is the magnificent music of Stephen Sondheim that brings a new fresh twist to the stories that we know so well. Of course, like all fairy tales, it contains light…and darkness, which could be a  metaphor for our own personal journeys in life. The musical explores the paths we take, what wishes we make and ultimately what we discover along the way in regards to love, loss, values, choices and responsibility. Each of our journeys can have a profound effect on everything around us and the characters realize this over the course of the show. Past decisions, both large and small, can come back to haunt us  in life. Like the characters, we continually find ourselves having to return to the woods, faced with new challenges, new perspectives and new choices. The world has changed since the show opened in 1987, but the themes that this show touches on are just as profound today...if not more so. When things seem most at odds, who do we blame?  What is right? What is wrong and what do we learn? It has been a delight bringing our version of this production to life. May your own personal quests to live "happily ever after" be ultimately realized and enjoy your own journey INTO THE WOODS.
