Thank you for coming to Dancing at Lughnasa and for supporting the FHS Theatre department. This year has been a year of pushing ourselves, and this show has definitely pushed all of us. I am so proud of the work our students are doing and the quality that they now demand of their directors and themselves. As we continue to grow and expand the department, we will continue to find ways to challenge ourselves. This is one of our most intricate sets that we've ever built, there are tons of props and costumes, the actors have had to dig really deeply to access their characters, and all of this is happening with Irish accents.
This show has been a passion project for both me and Eric. We were both exposed to this show in college, and we both instantly fell in love with it. You will see, there is very little "spectacle" to this show. No fight scenes, no crazy characters, and no epic scene changes or mermaid costumes (although we LOVE a good mermaid costume). This play is the story of eight people, and specifically five sisters. It is heartwarming, painful, funny, and most importantly, very true to life. This is just a good play, and not one we decided to do lightly. After our recent successes, and seeing the incredible devotion of our students, we decided that this was the group that could pull off this show. The students have worked incredibly hard, and we could not be more proud of them. This is not a show that most high schoolers would be able to do.
Again, thank you for coming, and we hope you enjoy Dancing at Lughnasa!
