Act 1

It is a period of civil war. The Empire, led by the evil Lord Argante and Queen Armida, the bad guys, is close to defeat. Commander Goffredo and Rinaldo of the Legion, the good guys, agree to a truce with the Empire forever restoring order to the Galaxy. Goffredo has offered his daughter Almirena’s hand in marriage to Rinaldo once said order is restored of course. However, The Empire in a last ditch evil endeavor has planned a trap for our unsuspecting heroes. Argante and Armida will abduct Almirena there by entrapping Goffredo and Rinaldo. If their plan succeeds, they will destroy the Legion and RULE THE GALAXY!  Armida uses her dark power and successfully captures Almirena. Goffredo and Rinaldo realize their mistake- never trust the bad guys.

Act 2

Goffredo, Rinaldo, and his droid set out to rescue Almirena. On their journey, they encounter two mermaids who promise to help with their quest. Goffredo and the droid recognize that it is most likely a trap, but Rinaldo, lured by the desire to rescue the love of his life, ignores them. Of course the mermaids take Rinaldo straight to the Evil Queen Armida. She disguises herself as Almirena in an effort to destroy him, but instead falls in love. Soon, Argante gets caught in the trap, falling for Almirena, who is really Armida. It is a complete emotional mess, but this is opera, and emotional mess is what we do best.  Meanwhile, Goffredo and the droid encounter a little green Sorcerer, not unlike the famous one that rhymes with Coda. The Sorcerer guides them to the Palace where Rinaldo, Almirena and the bad guys are hiding out.  After some words (sung) between the parties, a battle ensues leading to the age old question- will good overcome evil? Come to think of it, that last sentence was all you really needed to get the gist of “Rinaldo and the Galactic Crusades.” Enjoy the show!
