Seussical - April 24

Welcome to the Jungle of Nool!

When we first began conceptualizing this production of Seussical, we kept returning to a single, powerful image: a child’s bedroom in the middle of a chaotic world. To an adult, Dr. Seuss is a collection of whimsical rhymes and colorful creatures. But to a child, these stories are a mirror.

You may notice tonight that our stage is not filled with fur, feathers, or prosthetic trunks. In this production, we made the intentional choice to strip away the traditional animal costumes in favor of a look that feels closer to our own reality.

By presenting our characters as human, we highlight that "Elephant", "Bird", or "Kangaroo" are not just species—they are characteristics of the spirit: Horton is not defined by his size, but by his monumental integrity. Gertrude is defined by her vulnerability, not her plumage. The Wickershams represent the daunting energy of the playground bully rather than the literal anatomy of a monkey.

By keeping the aesthetic grounded, we hope to show how easily a child’s mind transforms the ordinary people in their life into the "larger than life" figures that populate their daydreams.

Our Prayer for the Audience

Our hope is that tonight’s performance serves as a reminder that the world is only as small as your imagination allows it to be. Whether you are a Horton standing up for the invisible, a Gertrude finding your voice, or a JoJo trying to find your way home, there is a place for you in the "Great Big Stuff."

Thank you for supporting the arts at GRACE Christian School. We invite you to set aside the "sensible" world for a moment, open your mind, and—as the Cat in the Hat would say—let your Thinks run wild!

Enjoy the show!
