A lot has happened since we began the rehearsal process in June and our world feels heavier than ever. Over 2,000 protesters took to the streets, blocking Interstate 94, in response to the trial of Officer Jeronimo Yanez. In July, Justine Damond was fatally shot by a Minneapolis Police Officer gaining immediate international attention. President Trump's military ban is currently in effect, excluding transgender individuals from serving the United States. Neo-Nazi groups are appearing across America. A local eatery, just down the street from my home, recently dismissed two employees who appeared in photos wearing Nazi apparel and displaying white supremacy paraphernalia.
The show you are about to see transcends its time period. It is a reflection of today and what can occur when communities crumble. Let this play remind you of the power you possess. You have an impact on every person you talk to or pass on the street. You have the ability to make a difference.
Enjoy the show!

FROM MARTIN SHERMAN:
“I have stumbled upon information about your forthcoming production of Bent on the internet. I usually don't comment on productions of the play but I was impressed by the intelligence and insight of the interview I read and touched too that young artists recognise that the play is unfortunately all too relevant, not least in the disturbing light of the last few days in America. So I salute your courage and industry and wish you an extraordinarily fulfilling experience with your production.
All my good wishes, Martin Sherman”
