Mean Girls: High School Edition - April 30 - May 09, 2025

Glenealge Secondary School

 End Notes

Congrats to the cast and crew of another successful Gleneagle Musical.

Here we go!

Mean Girls is a cult classic film that became musical theatre sensation in 2017.

It demonstartes the social structure of teenage life in high school. Although very sensationalized the musical has a serious message at its heart.

"Why is it necessary to fall in to particular social groups? Why can't we all just get along?

Janis Sarkisian and Damian Hubbard welcome the audience to their “Cautionary Tale”: Cady Heron is the new girl at North Shore High School in Chicago, desperate to fit in and find friends. Janis and Damian befriend the new girl, and when The Plastics set their sights on Cady, Janis convinces naive Cady to be their “friend” in order to bring down Queen Bee Regina George’s reign. Along the way, Cady loses herself, her friends, and her crush, all for the chance to be popular and loved. When dethroned Regina gets revenge by releasing the Burn Book, Cady is brought down and must mend her broken relationships with Janis, Aaron, and even Regina. With dynamic songs for young performers, Mean Girls is an anthem to friendship, loyalty, girl power, and being true to yourself.

What I find most intriguing about this story is how the civilized world becomes more harmful for Cady than the African wilds.

This musical confronts the challenges students face fitting in and finding their place in the world.  Every character has to evaluate who they really want to be and where they belong.  Cady finds out the hard way that to be the "fake/plastic person she wants to be means being as cruel and unkind as Regina.

We all find ourselves in a struggle at times trying to be accepted by our peers and collegues. Often leading to emotional distress and social anxiety. Finding common ground can be hard when you think your primary goal is to be the apex predator.

So it is Janis who brings us back to earth as she realizes that instead of trying to take someone down to find happiness or changing yourself to become accepted it is just better to be your true self.

When Cady realizes this she find success being herself and recieves forgiveness for her actions.  Being our true selves can feel like a frightening place but it is really the best place for us to be.

I hope you will enjoy this fun and energetic musical and learn that we should stop being a made up version of ourselves and instead see the stars that we truly are.

Now it's time for a cautionary tale when everything is "SO FETCH" and "FEARLESS

We hope you enjoy the show.
