A Note from the Director:
Shrek the Musical celebrates the power of sharing our story. By revealing our pasts and experiences and embracing our distinct character traits, we connect deeply with others, fostering acceptance and building strong friendships that can lead to true love. This is one of the primary reasons that we, as a team, selected this show for our students.
Drawing inspiration from the legendary works that have defined the American Musical, this production of Shrek will pay homage to its predecessors. We will weave in subtle references and stylistic nods to iconic shows, creating a unique and exciting theatrical experience that both honors the past and pushes the boundaries of musical theatre.
It is not easy to put on a production with over 70 students. I appreciate that I have a mature group of talented and hardworking students who pour all their energy into the show. I am always amazed at what our young artists can accomplish, and I must thank our student leadership for keeping rehearsals efficient and positive.
I would also like to thank our Drama Staff and parent volunteers who graciously donated countless hours to help bring this story to life. I am a firm believer in collaboration, and I love sharing ideas with my team. The creative visions from all areas (costumes, props, lights, sound, business relations, etc.) were not just individual contributions but a unique collaboration that complemented each other beautifully.
Finally, I would like to thank my fantastic wife, Allyson Burch, as we navigate the waters of being new parents. Our daughter was born in December, and I am so thankful for my wife's fantastic support and care of both her and me as I returned to work in February.
I hope you all enjoy our production of Shrek the Musical. Your presence and support mean a lot to us, and we can't wait to share our hard work and passion with you.
Sincerely,
Neil Burch
