Into the Woods - November 20 - November 21, 2015

Great Neck South High School

 End Notes

November, 2015

Sometimes people leave you.  Halfway through the wood.  Others may deceive you.  You decide what’s good.  You decide alone.  But no one is alone.

Dear Audience Member,

Into the Woods!  Into the woods the time is now.  We have to live, I don’t care how…. You must begin the journey!  Our students, actually all of us, have been on our own journeys for some time now.  This show examines the nature of wishes – what they are; how they change; what they say about us; how they drive our lives; what happens when they are granted; and what happens when they’re not.  What more perfect exploration for high school students?  What more ideal experience for any of us than celebrating that journey through song, dance and performance?

This is also an ideal time to celebrate our William A. Shine Great Neck South High School community.  First of all let’s celebrate our remarkable kids.  They have worked so hard and with so much passion to bring you a show that is far beyond what a high school performance might be – engaging, delightful and fun.  Not only have our students worked tirelessly on this show, they have done it while learning math and science and English and History and all those other subjects they work to master each day.  They have done it while facing all the other demands of being a teenager – college applications and teams and chores at home and friends and growing up.  I’ve said this before, but I must insist: Anytime you hear someone despairing about today’s youth and what that means for our future, please tell them about our kids.

Let’s celebrate the incredible professionals who have guided and supported the students through this journey.  We are incredibly lucky to have such dedicated professionals working with our students.

We are also fortunate to live in a community where the arts are supported and valued.  Thanks to the parents, the school board and central administration for their unwavering commitment to our students’ education in the arts.

Enjoy the show and remember:

You decide what’s good.  You decide alone.  But no one is alone.

Your fellow traveler,

Susan Elliott
