The Diary of Anne Frank (Adapted by Wendy Kesselman) - February 04 - February 07, 2015

Great Neck South High School

 End Notes

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Welcome to Theatre South’s production of The Diary of Anne Frank. This show is a show like no other. Based on the writing of a real girl, Wendy Kesselman’s stage adaptation of the Diary of Anne Frank portrays the life of a teenager under very unique and unfortunate circumstances. Yet the show demonstrates commonplace themes, such as relationships, rejection, fear and finding happiness in times of despair. Anne Frank is an inspiration to modern times, and emerges from history as a living, lyrical, intensely gifted young girl; Because of her writing, she will live on for an eternity. The Diary of Anne Frank captures the daily life of eight people hiding from the Nazis. And though time has passed since this horrific tragedy and the plight of the annex residents has become highly symbolic, Mr. Marr reminded us often that they are first and foremost human beings in extraordinary circumstances.  They laugh. They cry. They hope. You’re all in for a very moving performance.

We would like to thank Mr. Marr for all his hard work for making this play the very best it can be. Theatre South would not be what is it today his mentorship, dedication, and expertise. It is rare that a high school would put on a show like The Diary of Anne Frank, but Mr. Marr had full confidence that we would do it well. We would also like to thank Motch, Deb, Lydia and Rachel for their work on the show. The show would not exist without any of you! And of course, a thank you to Ms. Elliot, Ms. Applebaum, Mr. Duggan, and the wonderful staff who come and support Theatre South. We are all lucky to go to a school that supports and encourages the arts.

We hope you enjoy the show to its fullest extent. Now sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

Sincerely,

Maddie Walker, Michelle Geffner,

Russell Katz, and Kyle Warshavsky
