a note from the author
I’m not a poet. I’m a playwright who just happens to have written 60 poems over the last year.
Trust me, I’m as surprised as anyone. When I wrote my first one on March 18, 2020, it was a personal response to the various shocks I was absorbing. I was gratified that the poem gave comfort to my friends, but I never expected to write a second one. When I wrote my second one, I never expected to write a third, and well, you get the idea.
As the poems multiplied, I was amazed that what was a personal journey for me also seemed to reflect the journey others were having, ranging from despair to humor and even moments of celebration. The playwright inside me began shaping the poems as if each was a small scene in a play whose ending I did not yet know. I still don’t, but I do believe that the pandemic, as challenging as it can be at times, has also brought many blessings with it.
In one of my earliest theater experiences, faced with an annoying problem I didn’t want to have, a wise voice inside told me, “Embrace the adventures you cannot avoid.” So it has been, at least for me, with the pandemic.
I hope that this play is a healing experience, but even more, I hope you enjoy the ride.
