Set in a mythical “once upon a time” sort of land, Shrek the Musical is based on the 2001 Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and tells the story of a hulking green ogre named Shrek. After being mocked and feared his entire life by anything that crosses his path, Shrek retreats to an ugly green swamp to exist in happy isolation. However, his peaceful life is disrupted when a gang of homeless fairy-tale characters—Pinocchio, Cinderella, the Three Pigs, and more—raid his sanctuary, claiming they’ve been evicted by the vertically challenged Lord Farquaad.
In a twist of fate, Shrek strikes a deal: he will get their homes back if they return his home to him. But when Shrek and Farquaad meet, the Lord proposes a deal of his own: he will restore the fairy-tale characters’ homes if Shrek rescues Princess Fiona. Reluctantly, Shrek agrees, only to discover something appealing—something strange and different—about the pretty princess. He likes her. A lot. But why does she always run off when the sun sets?
Featuring all-new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire, Shrek the Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure that brings all the beloved characters from the film to life on stage. It proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears.

Irreverently fun for the whole family, Shrek the Musical proves that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.
