The Wedding Singer - March 14 - March 15, 2025

Half Hollow Hills High School East

 A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Welcome to New Jersey, 1985!

I saw The Wedding Singer during its original Broadway production in 2006 when I was in my junior year of high school and I became hooked. I had, of course, seen the film before but remember recognizing that the score of this musical only elevated the comedy and celebration of this story. Plus, it was super colorful and just plain ole musical comedy fun!

At its core, The Wedding Singer is a celebration. It’s a celebration of love – romantic love, yes, but also the love found in friendships, in second chances, and in embracing the unknown. One of the reasons this show resonates so strongly is its message of resilience. Robbie’s journey is a reminder that even when life takes an unexpected (and sometimes painful!) turn, there is always hope. Julia’s story reinforces the idea that we should never settle for less than what we truly deserve. And Holly? Well, isn’t that the reminder we need to have some fun? Through all their struggles, missteps, and triumphs, we’re reminded that, sometimes, the best things in life happen when we take a leap of faith!

To the cast and crew: Thank you for bringing the laughs every rehearsal. Your commitment to the comedy, your trust in taking chances, and your hard work is the reason this show is what it is. Thank you for your endless dedication and 80s body rolls! Always remember not to lose your typewriters at the club.

To Monica, Brendan, Erik, Alex, Doug, and Felicya: This show was a beast and I’m so lucky that you consistently share your time and talents with us. It’s because of your work that this production looks and feels the way it does. Thank you for always pushing through the crazy with me and coming out on top at the end! You are immensely brilliant.

To Danielle “I Was Alive In The 80s And I Have Prom Pictures To Prove It” McRoy: Where to start? This was a hard one and yet you always seem to just absolutely nail it. I’ve wanted to work on this show for a long time and, after bringing it up to you this past summer and your response was an immediate “YES!”, I knew you were the perfect person to do it with. Thank you for your patience and guidance every day. Your support, kindness, and, most importantly, friendship is the reason why working with you is such a pleasure. Never change – unless you want to get a perm and wear that blue prom dress again. Then change. Please!
