Les Misérables has arguably been the most popular piece of musical theatre over the past 30 years. The story of Jean Valjean has made its way around the world, translated into 22 different languages, and captured the hearts of millions. We hope that our production does just that for you.
Many people think the story of Les Misérables is one of death and sorrow, but I would like everyone to think of a different word as we watch this production; grace. We are all given chances in life to accept grace given to us from others. There comes a time in every person’s life where they have to make a choice: Do I accept the chance that has been given to me or do I succumb to pride and ignore it. The characters in this show are all offered a chance of redemption; do they take it and make a better life for themselves or does their own pride swallow them whole? You can make your own decisions on the overall meaning of this show, but through all of the death and destruction I like to look for that positive theme of grace. I hope you do as well.
Thank you all for supporting the arts here at Hampshire High School. We believe in a well-rounded student and these are the type of activities that prepare our students to conquer an ever-changing world. The arts are a place where students can learn to think creatively and critically. They learn about themselves as individuals and how to work as a group, but most importantly they learn how to give selflessly to a greater cause and create a beautiful piece of art from nothing. In today’s world I cannot think of a more important thing that we can be teaching our students.
Thank you for coming and I hope you enjoy the show.
