Theatre can inspire us, educate us, and make us leave a production
with a new life perspective. Then sometimes ... theatre can be plain
crazy, weird, and simply FUN. Working on this production of the Addams
Family reminded me of the simple joys theatre brings, and the
happiness it fosters. I feel very fortunate to be in a situation where
I can have this much 'fun' at work.
This new musical provides an original story line based off of a very
famous set of characters. We can all remember the somewhat infamous
music we would hear on our TV screens, followed by rhythmic hand
snapping, and singing a catch little tune. Then we would watch this
unusual and interesting family get stuck in the most peculiar of
situations. Seeing the family come alive on stage, and the overall
show come into fruition has ignited childhood memories. Couple this
with a fantastic theatre score, and you have a musical that is wildly
entertaining. Not to mention wonderfully goofy, catchy, and a bit
scary at times. But it would not be the Addams family without a good
scare here and there! Producing a show that involved such well known
characters seemed rather intimidating. But this new take on an old
classic managed to maintain the integrity of the original characters,
while adding a fresh theatrical perspective for new Addams Family
fans. This show was the perfect combination of two of my favorite
things; theatre and Halloween!
I am always inspired and impressed by the talent at Harborfields. I am
even more inspired by the growth and individual strides so many
students have made over the course of this production, as well as the
school year. Success starts with stepping out of your comfort zone,
and this theatre company is what I would classify as fearless.
Reflecting on the passed two years I have spent here at Harborfields,
I am extremely proud of the range of theatre we have produced and the
work we have done. This is accredited to so many things that makes
Harborfields a fantastic district, and community.
Thank you so much to the cast, crew, families of our students, Ms.
Scilla, Ms. Jackson, Eliana, Debbie Parker, Phillip Jordan, and all
other faculty members who worked endless to bring the 'misery' of the
Addams Family to Harbofields. A big 'thank you' to each member of our
audience who came out to support this production. Your attendance here
is greatly appreciate by the members of the theatre company, and shows
that we must continue working to keep the arts alive in schools.
Enjoy the show!
