Directors’ Note
Theatre was a struggle in the wake of COVID-19. Last year seemed like a never ending slew of challenges--the performance challenges of singing and figuring out microphones with masks, the rehearsal challenges of dealing with quarantined students who would miss blocking or choreography, and the financial challenges of having to limit seating at productions. It truly was felt at all levels of our process, and this year has brought its own challenges. But our students have persevered admirably. So, tonight, we get to celebrate the return of theatre in a way we may not have thought possible last year. MTI has graciously put together this worldwide fundraiser to help us recoup the losses of last year and give our students a chance to celebrate the art that teaches them so much and brings them so much joy. We are proud tonight to be utilizing our full community--current students, alumni, and faculty--to put on this production. It has been a challenge, but the students have been up to it. They've put in countless hours getting everything ready for tonight, and their hard work shows. I know that you are going to love this theatrical celebration.
John and I also know that our work would not have been possible without the help of many people, some of whom have been with us for years and some of whom are joining us for the first time. It is always a great comfort to be able to return to those familiar faces who challenge our students and push their abilities. Traci Lively has really pushed our students to their limit this year with multiple complex dance numbers of her own design and one song utilizing Broadway choreography. She has been so generous with her time, and we are ever grateful. We are also thankful this year to a group of faculty who have joined their time and talent with our production. The students appreciate your support and hard work. Lastly, a sincere thank you to our student cast and crew and their parents; your hard work and enthusiasm have carried this show. We know it's been a trying time, but we think you'll see that all that effort was worth it. Take a moment to take it in. We made it.
Thank you,
John Sides and John McMeen
