Sometimes it just feels right to select a show that will simply make you laugh. You don't have to think at all with this one, except when you are trying to figure out why something sounds so darn familiar!!
Something Rotten! references countless musicals, which makes it a perfect choice for me, a proud musical theater geek! I couldn't believe that I was able to catch almost every reference when I first saw the show. In fact, I encourage you to listen closely and watch staging, which might help you identify some very familiar tunes from other shows. It's fun!
The Cast embraced the humor (even though most of them didn't know the other shows!) because of its irreverence, raunchiness and just plain silliness. They have had a lot of fun with it. It's a gleefully giddy show. The music is tuneful and delightful.
My thanks to a Team that is irreplaceable. Beginning with Gillian Husovsky, Tech Director (and friend) –who shares my passion for working with the students - which she does tirelessly, to Bob Walton, Musical Director (and husband) who works overtime to raise the bar for the kids to grow in their musicality and brings us extraordinary musicians, to Penny Margeotes, Costumer (and BFF) who always provides a unique flair and creativity to our shows, to our new Production Coordinator (and new friend) Phyllis Udice, who is so attentive to every detail and has quickly become an invaluable asset, to Wendy Kaiser, Volunteer Coordinator (and long time friend) who is there to take care of all of the odds and ends of our production, to our hard-working (and fun!) Crew and Student Designers. I can't mention them all here (but please make sure to read their names!)..special shout out to our Stage Manager Maya Tadmor who has been part of the process throughout. My deepest thanks to Zoe Lohrasbi and Elianna Carvalho for teaching much of the choreography! Lastly, to our Parents who contribute to the countless areas that are essential to our successes. I would like to also mention fellow Directors, Rachel Wineberg and Jon Riss. Our collaborations and get-togethers are a highlight of my time in Hastings.
I know you will enjoy this raucous musical! You will laugh. You will smile. You will definitely roll your eyes. Heck, you might even blush. But remember it's all in good fun!
