The Director’s Note

What started in 1938 as a single comic panel in The New Yorker magazine by cartoonist, Charles Addams, has evolved into an American cult classic. The macabre Addams Family became a two season TV show which ran for many years in syndication, an animated cartoon series, a number of TV specials, three Hollywood movies, and most recently a Broadway Musical. The musical tour was edited from the original broadway script and it was this version that became a huge hit. It is now the number one musical produced by high schools and community theaters around the country.

My childhood memories of after school TV include The Brady Bunch, Gilligan’s Island, The Munsters, and The Addams Family. For Halloween I dressed as Wednesday Addams countless times (as well as Lily Munster). I am still a huge fan of this creepy and kooky family, and just the mention of The Addams Family evokes the musical finger snapping in all of us!

Needless to say, we had a BLAST creating this show for you! Between singing, dancing, and learning the lines, there was much laughter, love and unconditional support for each other. Skills were learned, friendships made, as well as memories that will last lifetime.

There are many people to thank with helping to create this production; Our amazing producer Anissa Arnold made sure that we were completely supported and timely with every aspect of the show, Jean Hill for her organizational skills and listening ear, Laura Andriacchi for her constant behind the scenes work with organizing the Remind App, cast/crew/pit party, and too many other things to list, Kam Johal for the t-shirts and cast/crew/pit party, Judy Greenwood for keeping us loaded with snacks, Teresa Santosus for helping with playbill ads, Luke DeLalio for his photography excellence and fencing choreography, the designers, directors, set producer, and choreographer  - such a dream team! I cannot thank you enough for all the hours of hard work that you put in to make this show so amazing.

But most of all, thank you for coming to the Herricks High School production of The Addams Family Musical. I hope you experience the same joy in watching this mysterious and spooky family show, that we experienced creating it for you.
