Notes from the Directors

Mia: The journey of putting this production together has been both challenging and exhilarating but is an experience that I will never forget. I am eternally grateful to have been chosen and given the opportunity to direct this year’s production. It is of my greatest honour to have been trusted with putting on this musical as it has always been a part of my life and is one of my favourite productions ever created. From singing and dancing to Abba songs with my family to watching the Mamma Mia movies and wishing I could be on stage with Meryl Streep, I have always known I wanted to bring this musical to life. Being given the opportunity to interpret and allow my vision to live through the cast and crew of this show has been an absolute pleasure to do. From our after school meetings, painting days, long and tiring rehearsals, and Tiago and I going crazy over getting things just right, this experience has been unforgettable. Despite some difficulties with having to combine the cast and crew of both senior drama classes and manage an almost impossible after-school rehearsal date, everyone pulled through and did their best to make it work out in the end. Thank you to all of our sponsors, parents, and teachers who have supported our cast and crew throughout the creation of this production. Thank you to Mr. Grogan for organizing and allowing us to bring our vision to life. Big thank you to Tiago, my co-director and compadre, for his huge contributions and help in putting together Mamma Mia!, without him our vision would not have been complete or possible. Final thank you to the fabulous cast and crew who have worked tirelessly to make this happen, for embracing your character, and bringing amazing energy to the stage! Mamma Mia! would not have been possible without the hard work of each and every one of you amazing people. Holy Trinity’s Mamma Mia! is one for the books! :)

TiagoSince I've directed a show before, I thought I knew what to expect coming into this production, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. There were some more complications than I thought due to the multiple classes, and rehearsal times that we couldn’t ever seem to nail down 100%. But this show means a lot to me, being a show I know very well, filled with songs that I absolutely adore. As time went on, everyone got on track and things teamed straight ahead into overdrive, and I couldn’t thank everyone enough for all of their hard work. Sure, there were times when I couldn’t be at rehearsal, or when people weren’t able to make it one day or another. There were some problems with lights, costumes and set pieces. But no matter what happened, everyone kept together and it was lovely to see. Despite the many long days, no one gave up, even when it got tough. I want to thank all of our sponsors, teachers and parents for supporting everyone through this tiring ordeal. Thank you to our crew who came out to support our show. Thank you to our dedicated cast for truly making this show your own and embracing your characters up on the stage. Thank you to Mr. Grogan for organizing this all, it wouldn’t have been possible without you. And the biggest thank you to Mia, my co-director and partner in crime. This show was a lot of work and I doubt we would have been able to pull everything off without her immense help. Finally, thank you to everyone who came out to support this show. This production of Mamma Mia! will surely be a show that Holy Trinity remembers for a long time.
