Director’s Note

Thank you so much for spending part of your holiday season with us here at Manvel High School for Elf the Musical! We are very blessed at MHS and in Alvin ISD to have the support of our administration both at our campus and at the district level. This year they empowered us to do our first holiday musical! We started our musical process much earlier this year so that we could have our production (which is usually the first week of February) ready before winter break. Our students have been in daily rehearsals since the second week of school. I have to admit that it was a little difficult to get completely in the holiday spirit in August, but it has made my Christmas season so full of love and fun that I wish we could do this every year. There are few things in life that I love as much as holidays and my students, so getting to create Christmastown with these kids has been a complete joy.

We chose Elf the Musical for our show this year because we wanted to create an event that could bring pure happiness to our families, school, and community. Buddy the Elf is so endlessly positive, and sees the world with such continuous wonder.  It is easy to get bogged down in the stress that we carry through our everyday lives. There is so much expected of us as parents and teachers, students and friends, that our times of celebration can still carry worry and pressure. We could all use a little bit of Buddy’s endless wherewithal of kindness and joy, and hopefully it will be infectious to you when you watch our production.

I hope our show makes your season just a little brighter, and puts some Sparklejollytwinklejingly feelings in your heart!

Thank you for joining us, and enjoy the show!
