D9 Cares - March 03

Howard W. Blake School of the Arts

Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS

Students from all over Hillsborough County area come together to perform in D9 Cares, a benefit performance for the charity Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDs. They perform both musical and dramatic scenes showcasing the work being developed in their programs. Many of these pieces received a “Superior” at the District Level and will be going on to state competition in March 2017. Other pieces preview the extensive lineup of Spring shows across the district. Still others simply share their love of performance. Each piece represents the best in our students - their ability to work together, to celebrate one another, to create, and to make a difference through their craft.

At a time when the value of the arts is in question, ten high schools join together with an answer. The value of theater is that it shows us who we are as a society and as a culture. It reflects life back at us so that we see ourselves more clearly and so we can learn from what we see. Tonight, more than 200 young artists will show you the very best of who we are - we are District 9 Thespians and D9 Cares.
