Troupe 2021: The Me You Don't See - October 02

Huntington University

 Director's Note

"The Me You Don't See"

This season's theme resonates with Troupe this year, in part because it is drawn from Dear Evan Hansen, and this musical has been revamped this year with the release of the film. But to further that, with the severe lack of communication and human interaction we have been experiencing throughout this pandemic, I think a lot of us have been hiding behind masks (figuratively and literally) and have been hiding our true selves from those around us.

We are often afraid to show the "me you don't see", meaning our true selves. Whether something has happened where our true selves are taken from us, we've never discovered our true selves until it is almost too late, or we have dreams that don't quite fit our outside personas, we should be encouraged to reach our true potentials.

Some songs have the theme clear as day, and some songs make you think a bit. That was on purpose. Because just as I have challenged my actors and myself, I challenge you to look at the true self you may have been hiding. And as you listen to these songs, search for those themes and how they relate to you. I hope they resonate with you and the "me you don't see".

And welcome back to live theater. We've missed you!
