Notes from the Director & Playwright: Bridget Amos
I wrote this play as an homage to different movies that I loved as a kid. Wizard of OZ, Emma, Princess Bride, and the Muppet movies. The messages that these films taught me, have helped in many different through out my life and I wanted to make a play with the same charm, timelessness, and a little splash of cringe. Thank you for taking the time to watch "Journey of Lily."
A Note from Ms. Smith:
When I first took over the Drama Club, one of the productions I KNEW I wanted to do annually was a Homecoming production. Essentially, this would be where veteran Drama Club members would come back and join current the current members and create a production. This would involve very little rehearsal time (due to a lack of time), very little production resources (due to a lack of resources), and we would forge ahead and make it work! We call it 'guerilla-theater'.
Everyone jumped at the chance to be involved with this show - and turning it into a puppet show performance added a dynamic layer of excitement. What you see and hear is student created - from the script to the puppets, to the props, to the wonderful acting!
I have been so proud to have TWO productions this year be 100% student created (written and directed). So often, the question I get asked is, "How do you do theater in a virtual school?!?"
The answer is this: You are watching it. Don't put limits on these guys, they will break the ceiling every time. Don't tell them they can't do something, they will prove you wrong and do it better. Don't talk about impossibilities, failed ideas, or what can't happen - this group makes you eat "can'ts" for breakfast.
Theater is what we do: Life-changing is what we are.
Don't sleep on the Drama Club...
