The Jersey City Arts Honors Program
JCArts is a unique conservatory program supported by Jersey City Public Schools. The Honors Program provides rigorous pre-professional arts training within an intimate collegiate environment. The Program serves students who desire and deserve exposure to experiential learning and practice in one of our four arts disciplines: Instrumental Music, Theatre Arts, Visual Arts, and Vocal Music. We serve as the arts training incubator for JCPS and provide numerous arts related programs and events for the greater Jersey City community and beyond.
Once accepted into the four-year program, these emerging artists spend a significant portion of their school day, hours after school, and sometimes weeks over the summer in studio and workshop rehearsing, creating, performing, and producing in their specialized field.
Our Theatre Company consists of highly motivated and talented young adults preparing for the demands of four-year universities, prestigious BFA theatre conservatories, industry apprenticeship programs, and professional work. In partnership with New Jersey City University, our theatre students receive college credit for their repertoire development and related work done at JCArts.
JCArts Honors Students are expected to acquire the discipline and professionalism essential to be successful in their field of study. To do this, they must be fully committed to learning and exploring new points of view. The skills taught at JCArts transcend their arts training and academic education; they impact their entire adolescent experience. The focus, drive, and discipline that are garnered in the Program become innate and surface in all areas of life particularly as they prepare and apply for scholarship and college.
