Winter Showcase - February 27

John Champe HS

 End Notes

Dear Avalon Theatre Family,

Thank you for joining us for our Winter Showcase! Our classes have been working diligently on this project since December and are so excited to share it with you! In the past several years, we have slowly created this showcase to help our students in the class have a chance to perform and work through an actual show. In the past, this showcase has taken place at Willard Middle School when our 9th-grade classes shared the stage. This year, we had planned to move the concept to JCHS fully, but with the current state of things, we ended up moving it fully online. It has been a fun adventure, and I believe our students have created some really fun pieces for you!

Our VHSL team, 4 a.m., has also dealt with challenges as the format of our competition has ebbed and flowed as the year went on. When we started the process, we were told it would be on a stage at a different school competing in a traditional format, then it changed to staggered, locked performances until finally, the competition has been formatted to be fully virtual and recorded in one take. Our cast made the decision to record on stage and they have put in tremendous work and dedication, as well as flexibility as the format kept changing. We wish them luck as they begin their process of competing for states!

Thank you for your commitment to keeping theatre alive this year. This year has been unlike any other. If you like what you see tonight, please consider donating to our program. Our program is fully dependent on donations, ticket sales, and the generosity of our patrons and community supports. This year we have been impacted greatly. Any donations go directly back into helping our students as we dig ourselves back to what we had before the pandemic. Thank you for your consideration.

As always, there is a tremendous number of people to thank. Thank you to our Theatre Boosters. I'd go insane without you. Thank you to our many parent volunteers working behind the scenes. Thank you to the administrations of John Champe for their support of our students. Thank you to our local community partners who dedicate time, energy and money into our shows. And finally, thank you to my amazing family. You all keep me going even when I feel like a crazy person.

Warm Wishes,

Nicki Cabaniss, Director
