We are excited to perform for you tonight the finale of our two-play story. In March we shared our production of Love's Labour's Lost and introduced some characters you will see tonight.
In our production of Love's Labour's Lost:
- Ferdinand, the king of Navarre, and three lords, Biron, Longaville, and Dumain, swear to study and refuse to see women for three years. This plan goes awry when the Princess of France, her advisor Boyet, and her three ladies, Rosaline, Maria, and Katharine, arrive in Navarre.
- Don Armado, a wandering Spanish nobleman, reveals to his page Moth that he is in love with the peasant Jaquenetta, which violates the oath Armado also took with the king.
- The king and his three lords fall in love with the four women: Ferdinand with the Princess, Biron with Rosaline, Longaville with Maria, and Dumain with Katharine. Once they discover each other's love for their respective ladies, the men scheme to woo the ladies.
- During a pageant for the lords and ladies, Jaquenetta reveals she is pregnant with Armado's baby. Armado promises to support Jaquenetta.
- The Princess receives news that her father has passed away. Before returning to France to mourn the king's death, the ladies give charges to the men and promise to marry them when they reunite.
- In an ending vignette:
- The Princess must surrender her crown to the new emperor, Napoleon.
- News arrives that Napoleon is marching on Navarre, leading the four lords, Armado, and other Navarre characters to prepare for war.
- Boyet must leave the ladies to join Napoleon's forces.
- Biron, fulfilling Rosaline's charge, arrives to work at a hospital where he meets Beatrice, Hero, and Ursula.
- Don Pedro of Aragon and his soldiers join forces with Ferdinand and the Navarre soldiers. Both armies march off to war as Armado is forced to leave behind Moth and the pregnant Jaquenetta.
