Kecoughtan High School Theatre

 End Notes

A Note from the Director...

Every production is special, every cast is special, and every crew is special. But this production of Into the Woods is MAGIC.

Despite a global pandemic, shortened production schedule, and many uncertainties and pitfalls, we have made it to the finish line with a dedicated and talented group of students and directors. I am beyond grateful that we have been able to return to our beloved stage to bring you this in-person show after more than a year.

Into the Woods carries life lessons that we all need:

  • "Children may not obey, but children will listen..."
  • "Though it's fearful...though you may encounter wolves...you can't just act, you have to think"
  • "No one leaves for good. You are not alone. No one is alone."

That last one is the most important. THIS has been hard. We have endured isolation, illness, loss and grief that have pushed us all to our limits. But if we can reach out to one another, whether physically or virtually, we can regain our sense of community and balance amidst the chaos.

This show is my gift to the class of 2021. When I came to KHS three years ago to head the On Stage Performing Arts Academy, I met the most incredible group of talented 10th graders who embraced every new idea, every challenging production, every new request with grit and determination. I could not allow them to lose this moment for a final show. KHS Theatre Class of 2021, I love you.

I also need to give special thanks to Mrs. Blackshaw and Ms. Schemrich. This would not have been possible without either one of you, and I am eternally grateful for you going on this journey with us.

Special thanks also goes to our KHS Administration team: Dr. Whiteman, Mrs. Graham, Dr. Grove, Mr. Fredericks. Thank you for your support in making our students' wishes come true.

Thank you to every KHS Theatre parent and family member for your support, for technical assistance, for feeding us.

And lastly, thank you to my husband and my sons for allowing me the space to give my heart, soul and energy to this production. Your support is everything.

With love always,

Tracy D. Bourne
